Our bodies send us signals about problems and diseases that we often don’t even know about, and the tongue is no exception. There are many things you can say about your health judging by your tongue.

We decided to share these important observations with you.

1. A Strawberry Red Color

This can be an indicator that you are not getting enough vitamins. If your tongue is shiny or strawberry red, it means you don’t have enough iron or vitamin B12. Later, the tongue may become softer because most of the taste buds will soften.

In severe cases, there may be severe pain when drinking hot beverages and eating spicy foods. You should consult a doctor and reconsider your diet.

2. Black Or Brown Plaque

Black or brown plaque on the tongue can look quite scary, but most of the time it is just a sign of poor hygiene, smoking, or drinking too much black coffee or tea.

As a result, there may be an unpleasant odor in the mouth and taste disturbances (difficulty recognizing flavors).

The first thing to do is to give up the bad habits that cause plaque and brush not only your teeth but also your tongue every day.

3. A Lot Of White Plaque

White plaque that looks a lot like cottage cheese is a sign of yeast infection or candidiasis. This plaque arises when Candida albicans overgrowth, which consists of yeast that is present in the mouth of a healthy person.

The reasons for this may be different: taking antibiotics, diabetes, a weak immune system, or high blood pressure. It is recommended to consult a doctor.

4. Furrowed Tongue

A wrinkled tongue can simply be a sign of aging (yes, the tongue can get old too). Cracks are generally safe, but if you don’t brush your teeth well enough, an infection can develop.

A yeast infection can develop well in the crack and cause severe pain and burning. The problem can be solved with special drugs.

Also, if you have dental implants that have been installed incorrectly, you can develop a wrinkled tongue.

5. Small White Spots On The Tongue

These spots can be a sign that something is irritating the skin. For example, a tooth that is constantly rubbing the tongue can cause this. But, most of the time, these spots are caused by increased cell production in people who smoke.

From 5% to 17% of these cells can be precancerous cells. If the spots do not disappear in a few weeks, it is important that you see a doctor and do all the necessary tests.

6. Red Spots And Blisters

Red spots and blisters that do not go away for a long time can be a symptom of a very serious illness. They are often associated with cancer of the tongue. You should see a doctor immediately.

7. A burning sensation

It is most common in women going through menopause and is caused by substantial hormonal changes, especially right after menopause starts. If you have this problem, you should see your doctor. Another reason for it could be using the wrong toothpaste: some people are allergic to some ingredients.

8. Bumps and dimples

This is quite a rare feature that is not dangerous at all. If you don’t have any pain, there is nothing to worry about, but everyone is different.
