source: one good thing

You already have everything you need for this effective dry heel remedy if you have a lemon, a pair of socks, and a half hour to spare!

Spring has arrived in Utah (or, at the very least, is attempting to arrive in between the biweekly cold fronts that have been bringing nothing but gusty winds!) In the meantime, it’s been warm enough to start bringing our patio furniture out of storage, which is helping to lift my spirits! 🙂

With sandal weather quickly approaching, I’ve been thinking that my heels could use some TLC before the occasion. So, this week, I’ll make time to do a simple, inexpensive treatment for dry heels that I first learned about a few years ago, and I’ll share my “lemon hack” with you here today in case you could benefit from it as well!

How Can A Lemon Fix Dry Heels?

When I originally came across this remedy for dry heels involving nothing but a lemon and pair of socks, it sounded so “out there” that I simply had to try it! And I’m glad that I did, because unlike other treatments and remedies, this lemon hack helped eliminate dryness and cracks on my heels in just one treatment.

The acidity from the lemon helps soften the tough, dry skin that often plagues our heels, and it also helps weaken the bond between dead skin cells and the soft, new skin cells underneath. Using a lemon also makes this treatment extremely affordable, because even if you have to go out and buy one, your total cost will still be under $1!

So now that you know a little bit more about how it works, let’s dive in to the specifics! Here’s how you can use this lemon hack to treat your dry heels at home.

How To Use The Lemon Hack To Treat Dry Heels

You’ll need:

  • Lemon
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Clean socks
  • Rich moisturizing cream or lotion

Directions:

Start by cutting a lemon in half, then use a juicer or reamer to juice each half. (You want to remove almost all of the juice while leaving some of the fleshy pulp intact.)

Keep the lemon halves close by and transfer the fresh lemon juice to an airtight container. You can store it in your fridge for up to a few days to use in another project or recipe.

Next, place one of the lemon halves against one of your heels, then pull a sock on to secure the lemon in place. Repeat with the other half on your other heel.

At this point, you can sit back and relax for about 30 minutes while you let the lemons do their thing. (It’s not easy to walk around with lemons in your socks, so it’s best to do this sitting down with a book or magazine nearby.) 😉

After 30 minutes, remove the socks and discard the lemon halves. Use a towel to wipe up any excess juice, then finish by slathering your feet with a generous amount of your favorite rich moisturizing cream or lotion. (You could also use coconut oil if you wanted to!)

That’s all there is to it! Your feet will feel much softer and smoother, and you’ll be more than ready for sandal weather (whenever it decides to arrive!)

The Takeaway

Overall, I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results I see after using this lemon hack for my heels. After all, what’s not to love about a simple and inexpensive home remedy that gets the job done?

However, I do recommend delaying this particular treatment for a while if you have really deep cracks in your heels, particularly if they are currently bleeding or have been bleeding in the past day or two. Getting lemon juice in an open wound does not feel good, so I would recommend giving deep cracks a few days to heal up before using this lemon hack!
