That being said, there were some problems with the baby. Becki-Jo was rushed to the hospital when she was 31 weeks pregnant, and there she had a Caesarean section to give birth to her triplets. The kids were very small. The lightest one weighed only 3.3 pounds. The triplets were born too early, so they had to spend six weeks in special care fighting for their lives.
In spite of all the chances, the triplets lived and did very well. Becki-Jo saw that people were having trouble telling them apart as they grew. People would stop her in the street and ask if they were the same. Becki-Jo was sure they weren’t, but she chose to find out for sure. A DNA test showed that the triplets were genetically identical, which is very rare (only one in 200 million times).
It’s hard to raise triplets, and Becki-Jo’s family needs a lot of help. There is a lot going on in the house all the time. The washing machine is on almost all the time. But Becki-Jo is thankful for her miracle kids, even though things are crazy.
Even though each of the triplets is becoming its own person, Becki-Jo is aware of the special bond they have with each other. “It’s amazing to see how close they are,” she noted. “They’re always together, and they have their own little language.”
