Throw 1 pinch of cinnamon on the floor, the trick that’s worked for decades

Cinnamon on Your Floor: An Unexpectedly Effective Ant Repellent

It may surprise many to learn that cinnamon, a spice cherished for centuries for its culinary and therapeutic benefits, has another unconventional yet effective use – as an ant repellent at home.

Cinnamon: More Than Just a Spice

Originating from Sri Lanka and obtained from the inner bark of the Canela tree, cinnamon is known for its thin, fragrant sticks. It plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin. This helps manage sugar more effectively and prevent unhealthy glycemic spikes.

Cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which can reduce inflammation and prevent damage caused by free radicals. Some studies even suggest that cinnamon might protect the brain and nervous system, potentially reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Cinnamon as a Home Remedy for Ants

Cinnamon is not just a kitchen staple; it’s also a natural, safe method to keep ants away from our homes without resorting to expensive or toxic chemicals. Ants, common insects that invade homes, especially during warmer months, are deterred by cinnamon’s strong aroma, which is pleasant to humans but intolerable to ants. The scent disrupts and disorients them, preventing them from following their pheromone trails used for communication.

Using Cinnamon to Repel Ants

To use cinnamon as an ant deterrent, simply sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon powder on the floor or surface where ants are present. Cover all areas where ants have been spotted, particularly around windows, doors, and cracks in walls. If ants are entering from a specific area, you can also use cinnamon as a barrier by sprinkling it directly on the affected spot.

Preventive, Not Curative

It’s important to note that cinnamon works best as a preventive method rather than a cure. If an ant infestation has already started, you’ll need to find and eliminate the source of the problem and clean the area thoroughly to prevent their return. In cases of severe infestation, professional assistance may be necessary.

Cinnamon is a natural, safe way to keep ants at bay. It’s an environmentally friendly alternative to chemicals and is safe to use around pets and children. If you’re looking for a simple and effective way to protect your home from ants, cinnamon is definitely worth considering.
